Benefits of Car Donation
Donating your vehicle through our Cars for Homes program is a great way to contribute to our mission. Proceeds from the sale of your car donation will help Habitat families build strength, stability and self-reliance in our community. Plus, it’s fast and easy to do, and you may qualify for a tax deduction.
Habitat accepts many types of vehicles for donation: cars, trucks, motorcycles, recreational vehicles, boats, snowmobiles, farm equipment and construction equipment. The vehicle does not have to be running, but it must be whole and have four inflated tires so it can be moved by our towing operators. After calling the donation phone number or filling out the digital form, a Habitat agent will come pick up your vehicle and title. Once the Habitat agent picks up the vehicle and the title is signed, Habitat legally owns the vehicle. Habitat International then sells the donated vehicle through a national network of auctions and direct buyers. After the vehicle is sold, Habitat will send you a letter providing the vehicle’s sale information. Habitat for Humanity SWMT will receive about 80% of the revenue from the vehicle’s sale.
Vehicle donation is not only good for Habitat, it is also environmentally friendly. Recycling cars keeps a huge amount of steel out of landfills – enough to build nearly 45,000 steel-framed homes every year. The energy saved each year is enough to power approximately 18 million homes! If you have a vehicle that is no longer being used, consider donation. Every donation makes a difference and the families that partner with us are extremely grateful for your help.
